The Why

item no. 001 & 002, inspired by an individual who left behind a legacy that will continue to inspire for lifetimes
Growing up and falling in love with the game of basketball, I couldn’t help but admire Kobe’s passion for the game, his willful competitive nature, and most of all- his desire to change the world. It’s only fitting that Patched Reign’s introduction follows suit by honoring the incredible legend he was.
100% of proceeds from these shorts will be donated in honor of Kobe’s legacy.
item no. 003, inspired by the desire to live a life that is both meaningful and worth remembering
There’s a latin phrase that I've really grown to love: “memento mori”. It translates to “remember you will die”. I think it serves as a nice (maybe more than gentle) reminder of how precious life is, of how it could be taken away any second–and that maybe we should let that fact dictate how we choose to interact with the world.
Maybe we should postpone absolutely nothing and genuinely live life to the fullest. Maybe we should always think and move and act and love with intention. And maybe we could just be a really nice person.
Anyways– wings because our potential to impact the people around us is so damn limitless, a skull to scream that impact is everlasting, a crown for living intentionally, and a cut off as a (maybe not so gentle) reminder that we won’t be here forever.
item no. 004, inspired by the simplicity of what it means to enjoy life
My grandpa passed away in March of 2021.
As he got older, there were very few things he looked forward to– but he never once missed a Warriors game.
It’s funny looking back. I used to print out the schedule for him and he’d carry it all around the house in a little folder, asking me the morning of each game day to confirm the date and time– even though it was written right there.
I swear to you the only thing this man knew about basketball was that the ball had to go through the net. But it was so fun for him. He got so excited seeing all the players’ celebrations and cheered as if he himself was at Oracle.
One of my favorite memories with him was watching Iguodala hit the game winner against OKC. His transition from moping on the floor after Westbrook had just nailed a dagger three to sitting there in complete disbelief smiling so hard after Iguodala’s fadeaway is a scene I will truly never forget.
I think about this often– I guess just how cool it was for him to have this relationship with something that made him really happy, even if it was as simple as turning on the TV and switching the channel to NBA basketball. I feel really grateful.
These shorts pay homage to a special era of Warriors basketball– a celebration of the 47 seasons in Oakland, more specifically inspired by the “We Believe” run. I had so much fun with this one– there’s 50 of these, enjoy!
